Birdy Birthday

For: Becky
Occasion: her birthday

Becky has a wonderfully playful quality about her, so for her birthday card I created a playful little bird!  He is drawn out of dots with some subtle watercoloring, and, most importantly, has a got a cupcake on his head. I really love how this card came out, and I can't wait to see Becky again soon!

Monster Swing Birthday

For: Anna
Occasion: her birthday

Anna is such a creative, wonderful ray of sunshine in life, and I wanted to try to capture these qualities yet again in her birthday card this year. One of the inspiration pieces in my studio is a drawing by Anna that features a lovely monster, so I decided to use a monster of my own for her card. This one has a swing hanging off his arm and a little Anna having a wonderful birthday at the makeshift park.

I so appreciate the energy Anna puts out into the world, and I miss her quite a bit!

Hop on Pop Card

For: My Dad
Occasion: Father's Day

Sometimes, I imagine that my father raising my sisters and I must have resembled Dr. Seuss's Hop on Pop. To honor what I'm sure was sometimes a struggle, I did a watercolor of the book's front cover, with an exasperated dad being pounced on by his children. The text on the inside of the card read, "Fatherhood can be rough." Which is very, very true.

I love my dad so, so much, and I hope being a dad is a little easier now than it used to be!

GOB Birthday

For: Nathan Curry
Occasion: his birthday

Nathan loves Arrested Development, and his favorite character is GOB, so I wanted to feature the magician in his card this year. The text reads, "Nice GOB on another year" with the Arrested Development red circle around it. GOB's cards are two aces with a two and a four to make 24, which happens to be Nathan's age...how magical.

I miss Nathan Curry a lot and can't wait to see him in July!

Quote Birthday

For: Kathleen
Occasion: her birthday

Kathleen and I follow each other on Pinterest, and we have had very similar taste in pins lately. For her birthday card, I mimicked one of the pins that we both liked; when I saw she had repinned it, I thought it was so absolutely perfect for her (and me) that I wanted to feature it in her birthday card. "Love yourself and the rest will follow"--wonderful sentiments for another year.

I miss Kathleen and can't wait to hear how life is as a DPT!

Soccer Flower Birthday

For: Riley
Occasion: her birthday

Riley is queen of the field when it comes to soccer--she scores goals like it's easy! For her birthday card, I wanted to feature her fancy footwork with a soccer flower. I love how this card turned out, and I hope Riles had an awesome birthday and I can't wait to hear about her next goals.

Indonesian Cat Birthday

For: Christina
Occasion: her birthday

For Christina's birthday card, I wanted to honor her life change of moving to Jakarta. To do that, I created this whimsical, vaguely Southeast Asian flying cat. The text reads "Selamat ulang tahun" which I believe translates to happy birthday in Bahasa.

I love this card so much, but I love Christina even more. I hope she continues to have amazing adventures and I can't wait until our next Skype date!

Yoga Blessings Birthday

For: Karly
Occasion: her birthday

Karly loves yoga, and this year is bringing her many changes, so I wanted to create a card for her that would create a sense of meditative peace. I think this image does just the trick! It's Karly in a seated prayer pose, absorbing the wishes of the prayer flag above her: "May your heart be warm," "May you be filled with joy," "May you shine," "May you feel loved," and "May you be well." These sum up all my hopes for Karly-dear in the next year.

Potato Kitty Card

For: Jamar
Occasion: May's card from the Universe

One of my new year's resolutions for 2013 is to create and anonymously send a card to someone who could use a pick-me-up each month--I'm calling it "cards from the Universe."

For May's card, I watercolored Mr. Potato Head holding hands with Hello Kitty, at the request of my dear friend Rukiyah. She is going traveling soon, and wanted to send a special card to her Mr. Potato Head.

Have a friend who could use a card from the Universe? Find us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DebbieDotsGreetingCards and message me your suggestion.

Bon Voyage Anchor

For: Sofi
Occasion: Bon Voyage

Sofi is going on an awesome vacation to Croatia, so Warren and I wanted to send her off with a special gift. I was in charge of the card of course, so I created this adventure-y and nautical compass. I really like how it turned out, and I can't wait to hear all about her travels when se returns!

Bird Birthday

For: Kathy
Occasion: birthday

For Kathy's birthday, I wanted to feature her playful and peaceful nature, so I created this watercolor of a bird singing a birthday cake! I think it turned out really fun, especially paired with the bright leaves background.

I miss Kathy a lot and can't wait to see her in the fall!

Hats Off Graduation

For: Elly
Occasion: Graduation

Elly is quirky and wonderful and interesting, so I thought I should try to make a card that plays to those qualities. There's a Lincoln-esque top hat, a Napoleon-esque tricorne, and a mortar board to round out the important hats collection. The text reads, "Hats off to you, Elly!"

I am so proud of and moved by this young lady's intelligence and compassion. I know she's going to do big things at Valpo next year!
