Emoji Birthday

Occasionally, friends will ask, "Say, can you make a birthday card for so-and-so?" And I respond, "Well I sure can, tell me about them!" (Usually followed up by, "Awesome, tell me more!") eventually i land on an idea and ask for pictures, and that is how we have a delightful emoji-fied friend in a party hat with an emoji book and tree and fire. I hope this is more than the orderer was hoping for and helps their friend have a super unique day!

Gravity Falls Twins Birthday

The Twins are super into the very best cartoon Gravity Falls recently, and so for The Twin's birthday card, I drew us in the style of the cartoon! Though the twin characters in the show are fraternal and therefore don't really count, we have been getting a lot of joy out of the twin jokes and antics. I adore my twin so, and even more adore that she made me a birthday card of me in this style--twin minds, I tell you what!

Dinosaur Birthday

 For: Bodhi
Occasion: his birthday

Baby Bodhi is a full year old and I can't hardly believe it! To help him celebrate his big day, I drew him a dinosaur in a party hat with a balloon tied to his tail! A "Happy Birthday, Bodhi!" message trails the dino's back, and all in all, this card is so richly colored and whimsical that I hope it helped little dude have a great day!

Hair Cutting Birthday

From what I gather, Bridge is a hair stylist-extraordinaire! For her birthday card this year, I used my metallic pens to create some hair cutting scissors doing their best with silver hair that spells out "happy" and "birthday" in its curls! I hope Bridget has a wonderful birthday and is looking forward to a great year.

Chicago Sports Birthday

 For: Uncle Greg
Occasion: his birthday

Uncle Greg is the ultimate Chicago sports guy, so for his birthday card I drew this many-sport mashup! Baseball is a little contentious, so I left out the cross-town rivals. To be perfectly honest, I saw someone wearing a shirt with this on it, had some Chicago chat and took a picture of it so I could try to recreate it for this card! What a wonderful way to spread some Chicago love!  

Plane-Watching Birthday

For Uncle Steve's birthday card, I did an illustration of someone (him!) chilling on a hill in sandals and watching some planes go by. I love the vibe of this card and hope it brings some relaxation inspiration for his birthday celebrations! It was so lovely to see the entire Ring clan on Friday to help kick off the festivities. 

Paddle Board Birthday

Occasion: her birthday

I adore my Sarah-dear, so for her birthday card I did an illustration of her paddle boarding in a party hat with a cake on board! She lives in Seattle, so I tried to create the iconic Seattle scenery on the lake. My favorite artistic feature of his card is the shadow of the paddle onto the board--but more broadly, my favorite thing about it is that it's for Sarah! I miss her so and hope she had a lovely day. 

Spurs Coyote Birthday

Mike is the biggest Spurs fan I know, so to celebrate his birthday this year, I did an illustration of the Coyote in a party hat with some fiesta color flow as he goes in (presumably) for the slam dunk! I love, love, love how this card turned out and hope the season this year is as fun as this card was to make!

Stuff is rough out there, and so to help another friend know and remember that they are never not getting hugs from me, I made this illustration of me hugging them from afar in a heart-shape. I hope it provides just the smallest amount of comfort during this tough time.

A friend is going through chemo, and since that is just absolutely the worst, I made this flow-y blue and white watercolor to wish them well and let them know we are thinking of them during this icky time. 

Crystal Ball Congrats

Occasion: Graduation/New Job

To help celebrate Eileen's amazing accomplishment of graduating with her Master's and landing a sweet gig, I created this illustration of a fortune teller predicting "Wonderful things ahead" with her crystal ball! I am so stoked for Eileen and hope she is just pleased beyond pleased with how hard she has worked to get here. Here's to the future!

Unicorn Birthday

To help celebrate Ellie's birthday, I did an illustration of a colorful unicorn wearing a party hat over their horn! The hat is metallic silver and gold and this card just makes me very happy. I adore my small friend and hope she had a great day and that we get to hang out soon!
