Sharing Sheep Card

For: Christina
Occasion: April's card from the Universe

One of my new year's resolutions for 2013 is to create and anonymously send a card to someone who could use a pick-me-up each month--I'm calling it "cards from the Universe."

For April's card, I watercolored two sheep on a bench. One of the sheep looks a little down in the dumps, so the other one is sharing his coat. The inside of the card reads, "We're all pulling for ewe."

I think it's a playful way to send some good vibes to my friend's sister, who has been having a bit of a rough go of things. Here's hoping this card will lighten her spirits!

Have a friend who could use a card from the Universe? Find us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DebbieDotsGreetingCards and message me your suggestion.

Sympathy Mountain

For: June
Occasion: In Sympathy

My friend Stephen passed away recently, and to honor his love of the mountains and adventure, I created this sympathy card for his partner, June. Stephen was such a boisterous, self-assured
person, and I will really miss him. I will always remember the hike we took to Rosalie, and our mitten swap at Fort Logan.

My heart goes out to Stephen's family, and I hope all who knew him find comfort in his memory.

Dr. Who's Staircase Birthday

For: Anna
Occasion: her birthday

Anna is a Dr. Who fan, and I wanted to share in our nerd-dom for her birthday this year. I created a watercolor of the cloud where the Doctor hides while mourning the loss of Amy and Rory ("The Snowmen"). I had fun trying to make the staircase hidden and mysterious-looking.

I miss Anna a lot and hope she gets plenty of great Dr. Who episodes to watch this year!

Sunflower Birthday

For: Laura
Occasion: her birthday

When I was thinking about Laura and what to do for her birthday card, I kept saying to myself that Laura is "a ray of sunshine." I adapted that thought to a sunflower, and then used pointillism (the dots
that artists like Van Gogh and Seurat used) to design the flower, as Laura and I went to the Van Gogh exhibit at the Denver Art Museum together! I had a lot of fun making this card, and hope Laura enjoyed her birthday. I miss her a lot and hope all is well out in New York.

Whimsy Cupcake Birthday

For: Jess
Occasion: her birthday

For Jess's birthday card, I wanted to create a cupcake scene of happiness and whimsy--this brightly colored watercolor does the trick! One of my favorite details on the card is the polka-dotted design on the cupcake liner.

I hope Jess has a great birthday, an awesome year, and finds herself making masterpieces in the kitchen!

Lunchbox Birthday

For: My dad
Occasion: his birthday

My dad was the proud owner of the "Play Ball Magnetic Game and Lunch Kit" that now is an antique. We rediscovered the item while perusing a shop in Georgetown, Colorado, and found that it was going for over $100! I was not able to buy the precious relic of Lunchbox Billy's yesteryear, but I did feature it in his birthday card for some nostalgia that will never go up in price.

I love my dad, and it was so great to see him as the surprise at my parents' birthday party this weekend!

Chicago Birthday

For: Ryan
Occasion: his birthday

Ryan is a lifelong resident of Chicago, and as I was thinking about him and his birthday, I found myself wishing I could be in the Windy City more often so we could hang out. I created this watercolor that features the skyline, the L, and his name in lights.

I hope Ryan enjoys his birthday and gets out on the town!

Bracket Birthday

For: Joel
Occasion: his birthday

For Joel's birthday card, I got caught up in March Madness and created a the JOEL Birthday Madness bracket. Contenders are King Kong, You (being Joel), Godzilla, and Fourteen. I have Joel going all the way. On the inside, the card read, "This year, my money's on you. Happy Birthday!"

I hope Joel enjoyed his day and takes out this year.

Owl Puke Birthday

For: Mom
Occasion: her birthday

My mom is a funny lady. While she was visiting me recently, she said this when my dad asked her whether she likes owls: "Owls puke such interesting things." I watercolored a very smug owl decked out in birthday party paraphernalia.

On the inside, I watercolored an owl pellet complete with a birthday cake and a piece of bone.

I love my Mom and hope her birthday was amazing.

Blackhawks Birthday

For: JP
Occasion: his birthday

JP is a big Hawks fan, so I did this artistic rendering in cray pas of the mascot. Tommy Hawk himself has all kinds of colors, but the background is exclusively red, black, and gray.
The Hawks are kicking butt this season, and I hope JP has a winning year as well!
