Bubba Birthday

For: Leia
Occasion: her birthday

Leia's dog is a cute and feisty little guy (well, he's not so little anymore), and I wanted to feature him in her birthday card for the big 3-0. I loved getting to try out some of my tricks for black detailing (note the little white lines and deep blue eyes) and can't handle how sweet he looks holding the cake and wearing a party hat. I heart Leia so much and hope to hang out again soon!

Baa Birthday

For: Maggie
Occasion: her birthday

Maggie has a great stuffed lamb named Baa, so I decided to try my hand at illustrating the beloved toy. I gave Baa a birthday hat and tried to keep the features close to life (thanks to Corinne for the covert pic!). I love how this card turned out, and I hope Maggie and Baa had a great birthday celebration together.

Bird Birthday

For: Aunt Julie
Occasion: her birthday

With spring officially here and great weather in Colorado, I've been in a bird-y mood lately. So for Aunt Julie's spring birthday, I did a drawing of this little guy in teals and reds to help celebrate the big day! My aunt has so many children and so many things going on besides, that I figured a little moment of calm might be the best way to help her celebrate the day.

Mountain Thank You

For: The Philips Family
Occasion: Thank You

To thank Sofi, Paul, and Jackson for letting us crash at their place for a ski weekend, I made them this happy Thank You card featuring mountains in reds and oranges. We had a fantastic time, and they were such thoughtful hosts! I hope to see them again soon.

Sun Birthday

For: Sofi
Occasion: her birthday

To celebrate Sofi's birthday this year, I created a very cool drawing of a sun. I love how this guy looks--I tried to go for a woodcut style, and I think it turned out well. I was feeling inspired for brightness, having just spent the weekend with her in Avon before her birthday, and am always impressed by Sofi's cheery disposition. I hope she had an amazing day and is enjoying plenty of Colorado sunshine!

Owl Birthday

For: Danielle
Occasion: her birthday

For Danielle's sixth birthday card, I did a fun illustration of a brightly colored owl to accompany the "Look Who's 6!" pun. Danielle is all about bright colors (just like me!), so I figured a happy yellow would be perfect for her big day. I added a touch of glitter to the 6 for some extra birthday fun. I love my spirit niece so much and can't wait to hang out again soon!

Shark Birthday

For: Adam
Occasion: his birthday

Adam has a great mug that depicts an ocean scene where sharks are visible when the coffee is hot; as it cools, the sharks disappear and the swimmers are blissfully unaware of the danger lurking underneath. It cracks me up, so for his inaugural birthday card, I featured a short shouting "Happy Birthday Adam!" Adam is such a great clinician and friend, and has always taken such an interest in the Debbie Dots enterprise. I hope the card was worth the wait, and really hope he has a great year.

Donald Duck Birthday

For: Ames
Occasion: her birthday

To celebrate Ames's 30th birthday (!!!) I did my very best rendition of her favorite Disney character, none other than Donald Fauntleroy Duck (in my research, I learned he has a middle name!). Ames does a pretty great Donald voice, and I couldn't think of a better way to wish her well into her next decade.

Birthday Ship

For: Grandpa Jack
Occasion: his birthday

Grandpa Jack turned 95 this year (!!!), so to celebrate his big day, I did a pen sketch of a ship similar to those he likes to watch on the St. Lawrence Seaway. The ship is called Jack W in honor of the nonagenarian. I really like how the watercolor paint comes up to the pen sketch as though it were the river water; I'd planned that detail from the start! Though the ship was hard to draw, I really like how the card turned out. I hope Grandpa Jack had a great day, and I can't wait to see the Grandparents Woolverton again soon!

Jeopardy! Birthday

For: O'Shea
Occasion: his birthday

Jess and O'Shea are big Jeopardy! people, so when it came time to make his birthday card, I decided to make O'Shea a contestant (wearing a birthday hat, of course) and with the combined earnings so far of his birthday this year (3/2/2017). I really love, love, love how this card came out, and I hope O'Shea was a big winner on his birthday!

Cat Chair Birthday

For: Julie
Occasion: her birthday

Julie has a cat named Nushi, and given my widely documented affinity for making cat cards, I was delighted to have another chance! I created a purple and blue polka-dotted fur ball all cozy in a futuristic bubble chair. I love how this card came out, and I hope Julie had a great day!

Constellation Birthday

For: Dan
Occasion: his birthday

When thinking about what to do for Dan's birthday card this year, I remembered how he had shown me star charts of different constellations up at The River. To celebrate the big day, I decided to make him his own birthday-themed constellation in the form of a cake! I love painting starry nights, and am really pleased with how this one turned out. I can't wait to see Dan and Janet in just a few weeks!
