Wedding Invites tied in Knots

For: Christy and Nathan's Wedding
Occasion: Wedding Invites

After doing the save the dates, Christy and Nathan asked me to do their wedding invites. We had a lot of fun brainstorming images, and here is what we came up with:

Cartoon Nathan and Christy are tying the knot! The sapphire blue is found in a number of details, including the knot they are tying, the ampersand, and the folio folder shown below.

The RSVPs are one of my favorite pieces of the entire set, with Christy anxious for you to reply and Nathan already thinking about the great food:

And the final piece that I created was a watercolor map of Champaign, Illinois so the guests will have an idea of where to go on the big day:

I was so honored to get to do the art for these invites, and I am really delighted with how they turned out. Now I just can't wait for the wedding itself!

Spacey Hula Hoop Birthday

For: Gina
Occasion: her birthday

Gina is an awesome hooper, so for her birthday card I wanted to feature this hobby of hers and her quirky sense of humor. I think I was able to do all that with this planet that's hula hooping one of its rings. I love how happy he is, and I particularly love the pun I wrote on the inside:

I "hoop" your birthday is out of this world!

Jersey Birthday

For: Augie
Occasion: his birthday

All the Azzarellis are athletic, so to celebrate Augie's ninth birthday, I created this birthday card that features a jersey with his name and age. I can't believe this little guy is already nine, and I hope he wins this year!

Car Birthday

For: John
Occasion: his birthday

John has his driver's permit and is having a great time driving around Kansas. I wanted to feature his new mobility in this year's birthday card, so I watercolored this little guy in a beamer. He's ready to go with his birthday cake in tow!

I hope John had a great birthday and has fun rollin' around town.

Cat Birthday

For: Brenda
Occasion: her birthday

Brenda has a pet cat, so for her birthday I wanted to feature her furry friend with a colorful twist! I created this colored pencil rendition of a party cat in a party hat to help Brenda celebrate her big day. I hope she had a great day!

Sully Birthday

For: John
Occasion: his birthday

John has a black lab named Sully. For John's birthday card, I decided to feature the pup holding a birthday banner. I am really pleased with how this card came out and I can't wait to see John and Sully-boy again soon.

Calvin and Hobbes Birthday

For: Uncle Tom
Occasion: his birthday

Uncle Tom loves the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, so for his birthday card, I created a watercolor of the dynamic duo caught up in a case of the giggles. I had so much fun making this card and trying to get the characters right--I am super pleased with how it turned out.

I hope Uncle Tom had a great day and I can't wait to see him at the open!

Grandma's Birthday

For: This year's stranger
Occasion: Grandma's birthday

Each year in honor of my grandma's birthday, I make a card for someone I find in the phone book that has a name similar to hers. This year, I decided to honor Grandma's rambunctious spirit by creating this little girl hanging upside down from a tree. I loved listening to stories about her growing up and climbing trees and playing with her sister in the neighborhood.

I had a lot of fun making this card, and I hope Grandma and my stranger enjoy it.

Camera Card

For: Em
Occasion: June's card from the Universe

One of my new year's resolutions for 2013 is to create and anonymously send a card to someone who could use a pick-me-up each month--I'm calling it "cards from the Universe."

My friend Justin recommended his friend Em for June's card--sounds like she's been through a lot and has a lot coming up as well. She likes to snap pictures of her life, so I thought I'd feature this funky camera to help keep her spirits up. On the inside of the card, I wrote this simple quote: "You can capture the world."

I hope this card helps Em have the courage to capture the next steps of her journey.

Climbing Birthday

For: Zach
Occasion: his birthday

Zach is really into rock climbing, so I wanted to feature this hobby in his birthday card this year. The image features Zach hanging on to some letter-shaped holds--I'm imagining there's a major heel hook coming up as his next move on that C.

It was so great to see Zach last week, and I am delighted my climbing recommendation worked out for he and Nina.

Puppy Birthday

For: Eileen
Occasion: her birthday

Eileen is a big fan of adorable animals, so I created this puppy in a bucket to help celebrate her birthday! This little guy is the first creation with my new colored pencils, and I could not be happier with how he came out.

I love Eileen a lot and hope she had an equally adorable birthday.
