Golf Birthday

For: Dan
Occasion: his birthday

To help celebrate Dan's birthday, I created a watercolor painting of him golfing in what must be Colorado, per the purple mountains. I love how the card turned out and am so excited for his trip out here in a few days! I hope he had a great birthday and can't wait to see him soon.

The Cake Birthday

For: Uncle Brian
Occasion: his birthday

Uncle Brian loves old horror movies, so for his birthday card, I adapted The Blob's iconic movie poster to the more celebratory version of the film called The Cake. Of course, a big three tier birthday cake is eating a 1950s diner car, and the people are running away and screaming. It was so great to hear from Uncle Brian and I'm really glad he liked his quirky birthday card!

Beer Birthday

For: Jeremy
Occasion: his birthday

For Jeremy's birthday card, I created a cartoon version of a Corona with a lime in it shouting, "Happy Birthday, Jeremy!" I love how this looks (particularly the bottom half of the lime through the bottle). I hope Jeremy had a wonderful birthday and is enjoying life out in Ohio.

Space Cat Birthday

For: Charles
Occasion: his birthday

For Charles's birthday card, I created a cat in a space suit flying through space, because how could you not? I really like how it came out with brighter colored pencils on the black background. Charles is such a cool guy (a cool cat?) and I hope he enjoyed his birthday!

Bernie Valentine

For: Michael
Occasion: Valentine's Day

Mike is a big reader/participator in the Something Awful forums, and on there they have a lot of different emojis that you can use to emphasize your brilliant points. One of my favorites is :bernget: which features Bernie Sanders with a net catching a chicken. For the Valentine's edition, I changed the chicken to some hearts. I thought this was an extra appropriate valentine this year, as we went to the Bernie rally with 18,000 other Denverites as part of our Valentine's Day weekend celebration. I love Mike and am so glad we support the same candidate, because this card would be really awkward otherwise.

Bb8 Valentine

For: Christy and Nathan
Occasion: Valentine's Day

Twin and Nathan really enjoyed the new Star Wars and even saw it twice! Twin has a big crush on Bb8 (and really, how can you not? He's super cute), so for their valentine, I did a watercolor rendition of the little guy sharing some love. I love how it turned out (I've been practicing painting off white in watercolor) and think it's pretty funny that Twin had something similar to this as her desktop image. I hope they have a great Valentine's Day!

Gollum Valentine

For: Amy
Occasion: Valentine's Day

Amy recently rewatched all the LOTR movies, and she's been rocking recipes out of her fish cookbook, so for her valentine, I reworked the scene where Gollum slurps down a fish and instead gave him a Valentine's heart. This card cracks me up because there's so much contrast between the creepy and the soft and sweet. I hope Ames has a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Waffle Valentine

For: Mom and Dad
Occasion: Valentine's Day

My parents had a lovely trip to Belgium earlier in January, and so for their valentine this year, I created a beautiful heart-shaped Belgian waffle. I pride myself on my watercolor waffles, so I was pretty excited to do another one! The text reads, "I love you a waffle lot" and I could not be happier with the pun. I hope my parent's have a great Valentine's Day once my dad returns from skating in the Nationals!

Cassette Birthday

For: Ben
Occasion: his birthday

To help celebrate Ben's birthday, I did a pen sketch of a cassette tape featuring a "Happy Birthday!" mix. I had a lot of fun sketching this out, and hope he had a great day!

Pac Man Birthday

For: Dylan
Occasion: his birthday

To help celebrate Dylan's birthday, I created a PacMan who is going after tiny cakes and cupcakes instead of the everyday white dots. I had fun writing in the PacMan font, too! I hope Dylan had a lovely birthday and got all the cake he could wish for.

Soccer Birthday

For: Danny
Occasion: his birthday

Danny is a soccer superstar, so for his birthday card I created an awesome watercolor of a player going in for an epic strike. I love the colors of this card and the movement and really just everything about it. I hope Danny has a great birthday, and that this year brings all kinds of victories!

Relaxation Birthday

For: Jeannine
Occasion: her birthday

Jeannine is a very busy lady, so for her birthday card I created a scene of relaxation. In a fun cartoony sketch, she's having a bubble bath and a glass of wine with some candles burning nearby. I love the bright colors of this image and I appreciate Jeannine so much--I hope she had a relaxing birthday.

Sympathy Flowers

For: Jess
Occasion: In Sympathy

My dear friend's mother passed away last week, and I wanted to do something to help honor her beautiful life. I created this card with a watercolored chevron background overlaid with a flowery pen sketch. The sketch is lightly colored with peach to tie in the background paper. My heart breaks for Jess and her family, and my thoughts and prayers are with them (yours would be appreciated too!).

Deconstructed Cake Birthday

For: Uncle John
Occasion: his birthday

For Uncle John's birthday card this year, I did a pen sketch of a deconstructed birthday cake. I am getting a kick out of the floating frostings and cake rounds here. I love the idea and hope it helped Uncle John ring in another year of being awesome!
