Awkward Father's Day

For: My dad
Occasion: Father's Day

I saw this card idea online, and had to adapt it for my particular style circa '97. The text reads "Thanks for loving me through all my awkward phases." The watercolor features some great curly pigtails, glasses, and braces to round out the quintessential Debbie (and Christy!) look. I love my dad so much and hope to see him soon.

Dinosaur Birthday

For: Nathan Curry
Occasion: his birthday

Nathan loves dinosaurs and I love dinosaurs (still talking about my dino costume from last Halloween!) so I had to make a watercolor dinosaur to celebrate his birthday. I had a great time figuring out how to get the perfect one (this guy was the second iteration of the card) and I love how it turned out. I can't wait for him to come out with the Twin in a few weeks and go to Dinosaur Ridge!

Little Moments Birthday

For: Kathleen
Occasion: her birthday

For Kathleen's birthday card, I wanted to create a moment of peace to help her celebrate. This idea lead me to a lady dipping her feet in some water. I had a great time figuring out how to illustrate the rings in the water and how to make her toes look submerged. I love, love, love this card (I'm thinking about making a bigger one to hang up in the new place!) and I miss Kathleen a lot. I hope she had a great day.

Owl Birthday

For: Kathy
Occasion: her birthday

Kathy is an elementary school teacher, so I featured the idea of intelligent little ones by creating a watercolor of a cute little owl in a birthday hat. I love how curious he looks! I hope Kathy had a great day and is enjoying her summer break.

Cake Birthday

For: Karls
Occasion: her birthday

Karly is the biggest fan of cake I've ever met, so I had to feature the dessert in her birthday card this year! I created a watercolor of a bright pink cake with different colored layers aside a visual recipe for the delicious treat. I put the correct number of candles on the cake for some Debbie Dots accuracy!

I miss Karls so much and was so happy to see her a few weeks ago!

Monster Birthday

For: Riley
Occasion: her birthday

For Riley's birthday, I tried to capture the excitement by creating a little purple buddy jumping on its bed to a background of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" The completed card makes me really happy, and particularly the subtle polka dots in the coloring. I hope Riley had a great birthday and got to jump on her bed if she wanted to!

Lightbulb Anniversary

For: Mike
Occasion: our anniversary

Mike and I hit the big one year mark recently, and to mark our 365 day journey around the sun together, I created an illuminating anniversary card for him. I did a watercolor of a lightbulb with heart-shaped filament and added "you light up in my life" in my fanciest metallic calligraphy. I really like the look of the card, had a great time celebrating our big one year, and can't wait for what the next year will bring!

Cupcake Birthday

For: Lydia
Occasion: her birthday

To celebrate Lydia's birthday, I used my colored pencils to create a bright and happy cupcake! I paired that with a fun background paper using the colors from the cupcake image, and I think it turned out great. I hope Lydia had a great day!

Ice Cream Birthday

For: Aunt Sioux
Occasion: her birthday

For Aunt Sioux's birthday, I created a happy little ice cream to help celebrate. He's screaming "Happy Birthday!" and I love how happy he looks. Aunt Sioux is a lovely lady and I can't wait to see her again!
