Umbrella Card

For: Shanna
Occasion: March's card from the Universe

One of my new year's resolutions for 2013 is to create and anonymously send a card to someone who could use a pick-me-up each month--I'm calling it "cards from the Universe."

For March's card, I designed this playful watercolor for a friend of a friend who has been having a rough time. When I heard about her situation, I couldn't get this image out of my head, so I did my best to create it. I love how the watercolor looks in the rain and the clouds, and the little drops bouncing off the umbrella.

I hope this card brought a little protection from the rain.
Have a friend who could use  next month's card? Find us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DebbieDotsGreetingCards and message me your suggestion.

Wise Owl Birthday

For: Julie
Occasion: her birthday

Julie's birthday was earlier this month, and she lives in China so I am never sure when her card will get there. This year, her card featured a mysterious and colorful owl that I watercolored. I really like how it turned out, and I hope Julie gets the card soon if she hasn't already!

Beautiful Human Birthday

For: Aunt Julie
Occasion: her birthday

When I was a much younger version of myself, I reportedly told my mom that Aunt Julie was "a beautiful human woman." Though that's a hilarious distinction to make, I still think it's true.

I hope she has a great day and a wonderful year!

Zebra Birthday

For: The Bee
Occasion: her birthday

Danielle is a whole two years old! To help her celebrate, I created this playful purple zebra watercolor that reminds me of her pink giraffe Lois. The zebra has a 2 in its mouth and is ready to help The Bee celebrate the start of year three!

I love my spirit niece so much and can't wait to see what adventures this year will bring her!

Poppy Mountain Birthday

For: Sofi
Occasion: her birthday

Sofi loves the mountains and Colorado, so for her birthday card, I created this watercolor of a sunset over the mountains and a field of red poppies. This was a different style for me, and it was a lot of fun to create! I think the overall effect of the card is calming and serene, and these are my hopes for Sofi this year.

I miss her a lot and hope she had a great day!

Fort Birthday

For: Amy-kins
Occasion: her birthday

For Amy's birthday card, I wanted to somehow capture her wonderful, playful spirit, and decided that this blanket fort watercolor was the perfect way to do so. It features a girl reading a book with her teddy bear, along with a piles of pillows and a bookcase full of adventures.
The shadows of this painting took quite a bit of work, but I think the watercolors really pulled through for me!
I love my Amy so much and am glad she had a wonderful birthday.

Color Test Cards

For: Day Program Staff
Occasion: Communication Training

I run monthly processing groups for my staff, and last month we did The Color Test. The test breaks communication styles into four colors, and we made "communication Valentines" based on whichever color was our primary style. I have the blue communication style (feelings and empathy!) so my background is blue. The image is a depiction of how I feel when I have successfully communicated my needs: it's mood bear, an emotion identification tool whose face you can change based on how you feel, and he is so happy with himself.

I think the training went great--I love an opportunity to get people making cards!
