Floral Ring Card

For: Gail
Occasion: February's card from the Universe

One of my new year's resolutions for 2013 is to create and anonymously send a card to someone who could use a pick-me-up each month--I'm calling it "cards from the Universe."

For February's card, I created this floral watercolor for my aunt's mother. She has had some losses this year, and February might have been a particularly rough month. I really like the detail of the flowers, and the Emerson quote tops it all off: "the earth laughs in flowers."

I love the look of this card and hope it brought a little brightness to her day.
Have a friend who could use  next month's card? Find us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DebbieDotsGreetingCards and message me your suggestion.

Lion Music Birthday

For: Uncle Brian
Occasion: his birthday

My uncle Brian is a quirky guy, so I thought I'd try to feature this quality in his birthday card--and what's quirkier than a lion in a suit listening to music? I'm very pleased with how the card came out, and I hope UB has an awesome day.

Howl Birthday

For: Jeremy
Occasion: his birthday

For Jeremy's card, I did a colored pencil drawing on white cardstock, which is a little bit of a different look for Debbie Dots! The card features a wolf mouth howling "Happy Birthday" with an '80s/'90s inspired circle pattern in the background.
Ultimately, I think the card looks neat and I hope Jeremy has a great day!

Pug Birthday

For: Meaghan
Occasion: her birthday

Meaghan loves her dog Winnie, so for her birthday card, I featured the little guy in a party hat! Pugs are super fun to paint, I come to find out, and I had a great time working with his expression--I even threw in a little smile for some added pug happiness.

I love Meaghan so much and hope this year brings her all kinds of adventure.

Elephant Birthday

For: Juanita
Occasion: her birthday

Juanita also loves elephants, so for her birthday card, I created a watercolor design in the shape of the friendliest pachyderm. I like the whimsy of the floral design in the elephant shape, and the card overall is a bright bundle of happiness, just like Juanita!

I had a wonderful time celebrating her birthday with her, and hope this year brings all kinds of fun.

Weeping Angel Valentine

For: Amy
Occasion: Valentine's Day

Amy is a fellow Dr. Who nerd, so for her Valentine, I featured one of the creepiest villians from the entire saga: a weeping angel. When you're facing one of these evil statues, you can't blink because they will move while your eyes are closed, grab you, and send you back in time. "I cant take my eyes off you" is a Valentine's variation of "Don't blink. Blink and you're dead."

I hope Ames has a great Valentine's day and doesn't get eaten by a weeping angel.

Valentine Pie

For: Mom and Dad
Occasion: Valentine's Day

My parents are both math geniuses, so I played on the pie/pi homophone and made a Valentine's joke: "You are as sweet as Pi." I think pie is definitely sweeter, but as a non-math person, I would think that, wouldn't I?

I love my parents very much and hope they have a great Valentine's Day.

Valentine Sign

For: Christy and Nathan
Occasion: Valentine's Day

For Christy and Nathan's Valentine, I created a watercolor of an outdoor sign with interchangeable letters. Today, the sign reads, "Happy love day, Nathan & Christy" with a heart shape added for some extra love flair.

These two are my favorite couple, and I hope they have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Dragon Birthday

For: Dylan
Occasion: his birthday

For Dyl's card, I created this whimsical watercolor of a birthday dragon. I absolutely love how playful and childlike this card turned out! I hope Dylan has a great year, and I hope that the dragon will share the cake with him.

Shoelace Wedding

For: Amanda and Phil
Occasion: their wedding

Amanda and Phil had their wedding on a ranch today, and to help them celebrate I created this rustic card. Amanda's signature style at work was unique skirts with nifty sneakers, so I featured this look with some subtle color highlights. Their shoes are tied together (they did "tie the knot," afterall!) and the edges of the drawing are burnt to add to the rustic ranch flair.

I hope the wedding was wonderful and that Amanda and Phil have a lifetime of adventures together!

Well Wishes Hair

For: Laura
Occasion: Good Luck

Laura is moving to New York to start a new adventure, and I wanted to send her off with a card. I created this watercolor featuring her beautiful hair with some messages drawn in: "Take chances," "Live with intention," "Love freely," and "Be yourself." Laura has been such a blessing, and I will really miss her. I wish her well on these next steps!

RN Birthday

For: Uncle John
Occasion: his birthday

My uncle recently became an RN, so I wanted to feature this awesome feat in his birthday card this year! He's wearing scrubs and checking the heartbeat of a birthday cake. I think the overall look is playful and fun, and I'm happy with how it turned out.

I hope Uncle John had a great day and enjoys the challenges of his new career.
