Puppy Wedding

For: Zach and Alyssa
Occasion: their wedding

To help celebrate Zach and Alyssa's wedding, I did a watercolor of their adorable new puppy, Moose! He's got a basket with the date of their wedding on it and is holding the rings. I hope they had a magical wedding and that their marriage started surrounded with love, joy, and awesomeness.

Head in the Clouds Birthday

For: Domi
Occasion: her birthday

Thinking about Domi this year, I wanted to convey a sense of calm and serenity. This lead me to medication, and the idea that thoughts come in and out of our heads like clouds floating in the sky. And then--voila!--a silhouette of a cloud thought among a cloudy sky. I really hope everything is going great for Domi and that she is kicking butt out in Boston!

Summer Fun Birthday

For: Aimee
Occasion: her birthday

Aimee is such a sweetheart, so for her birthday card, I designed a cute little painting of her relaxing with a big floppy hat and a glass of wine! I love how this card turned out and am so glad to have this lady as a friend.

Trail Run Birthday

For: Mollie
Occasion: her birthday

Mollie has gotten me in to trail running, and we're going to Moab in November to run a half marathon together! For her birthday card this year, I did a watercolor/pen sketch combo of a trail in Moab featuring a "Happy Trails" ribbon (based on the event's logo last year) with a little cake tucked away in the sun! I hope Mollie has a great year, and I can't wait to run up all kinds of mountains with this girl!

Animal Birthday

For: Violeta
Occasion: her birthday

Violeta loves all kinds of animals, so for her first Debbie Dots birthday card, I featured her hanging out with a bunch of forest animals having a little birthday gathering for her! She was so, so excited about this card, and it made me really happy to see that. Violeta is a super fun coworker, and I wish I got to hang out with her more often!

Radical Mountain Birthday

For: Adam
Occasion: his birthday

Adam is a big mountain guy, and has been bagging some peaks with his family this summer. To celebrate his birthday, I did this silly watercolor of a mountain wearing a party hat and having a great time out in nature (look at that face!). Life is good in the mountains, and I hope Adam gets plenty of time in his happy place this year.

Cat Garden Birthday

For: Elly
Occasion: her birthday

For Elly's birthday card, I did a watercolor of a cat playing in a flower garden--look at these fun colors! Elly is crushing it out in St. Louis and has a cat of her own (I'm not sure what her cat looks like, but this one is cute, too!) and a new apartment. I hope her next year is amazing and offers a lovely mix of stability and adventure.

Frisbee Birthday

For: Jack
Occasion: his birthday

For Jack's birthday card, I did an illustration of a frisbee flying through the air! I captured it at just the rotation point when it was when its "Happy Birthday" message was visible, lucky me. I think this card looks super sharp, and it has a Peanuts feel to me somehow! Anyway, it was such a blast to see Jack at Shelybyville and I was happy to overhear him ask whether it was "too dark for frisbee" on evening down on the farm.

Alphabet Soup Birthday

For: Tommy
Occasion: his birthday

For Tommy's birthday card, I created an illustration of a bowl of alphabet soup that spelled out "Happy B-day" on the spoon! I love the red and orange mix of the soup color and how I was able to use the yellow cardstock to be the alphabet noodles. I hope Tommy had a great day!

Cuddly Quilt Birthday

For: Aunt Mary
Occasion: her birthday

For Aunt Mary's birthday card, I created a drawing of her snuggling up in a quilt. I'd seen on Pinterest that she is saving a lot of quilting pins, and figured this would be a great way to celebrate her day. I love how cute and playful this is! I hope Aunt Mary had a great day and is enjoying summer.

Wildflower Birthday

For: Gina
Occasion: her birthday

Gina is a wildflower lover, and a wildflower of a friend! To celebrate her birthday this year, I drew her some iconic Colorado wildflowers--the Columbine and Indian Paintbrush--and then some others--which looks kind of like lepidium montanum, if my flower ID skills are worth anything (which they aren't, but Gina's totally are!). This card was such a blast to create, and Gina was a particular fan of the mountains in the background (they do look swell, don't they?). I adore Gina and am so glad I got to participate in her birthday celebrations!

Skull Vase Birthday

For: Lucia
Occasion: her birthday

Lucia is a really cool person and has just the coolest style. On a hike recently, she mentioned she was planning on another tattoo featuring a skull and some flowers. In thinking about that, instead of trying to recreate the design she explained, I figured a variation on the theme might make a neat card for Lucia's big day. I really love how it turned out and am so glad that Lucia liked the card!
