Mermaid Birthday

Emily had a mermaid-themed birthday party, so to celebrate her big day, I drew her a mermaid of her own! I had to laugh as I was coloring that she turned out to look very similar to Ariel -- I think Disney got into the mermaid schema in my brain! I hope Emily enjoyed this card and had an amazing day!

Spider-Gwen Birthday

G loves Spider-Gwen, so for her birthday card I created this awesome illustration of the character holding a birthday balloon! I love the fierceness contrasted with the whimsy of the party paraphernalia. I am so excited to see G and fam all the time now that they are moving back to Colorado!

Cannon Ball Birthday

 For: Jackson

To help Jackson celebrate his birthday, I drew an illustration of him jumping into a swimming pool! I love the party hat, the detailing on the water, and the subtle sun tans! I hope Jackson has had a great time at the neighborhood pool and has an even better birthday!

Cat Birthday

Occasion: his birthday

Will is a fan of cats, so for his birthday card I did a line drawing of two very inquisitive friends in party hats. I love how the cross-hatching tightens as the cats overlap and how whimsical it is that the furry friends share an eye. I miss Will a bunch and hope we get to connect soon!

Father's Day Hammer

Okay, this idea is so delightful -- I love how it relies on the popular conception of a father teaching about tools, adds in a pun, and then metallic markers to boot! "This is not a drill. Happy Father's Day!" I love my dad to the mood and back and appreciate all his guidance over the years, tool-related and otherwise. 

Switch Birthday

 For: Nathan Curry
Occasion: his birthday

Nathan was very excited about the new Nintendo Switch release, so for his birthday card I played with the graphic design of the system and made it into a birthday message: "Happy Birthday 2 you!" I adore my brother bear so and hope he has lots of fun and games this year!

Rainbow Kitty Birthday

Occasion: their birthday

I wanted to make Kai the happiest cat-themed card I could, and the result of that intention is this ecstatic almost psychedelic fur-ball. Kai has been such a friend to me over these years and I really appreciate their presence in my life. Here's hoping they have the best year yet!

Sun Trip Birthday

 For: Kathy
Occasion: her birthday

My cousin Kathy is among the loveliest humans ever. To celebrate her birthday, I played on one of my favorite birthday sayings about rotations around the sun: "You brighten the Earth each trip around the Sun." I so enjoyed playing with the typefaces and placements for this card (particularly how 'the Earth' points to the blue green marble). I hope Kathy's year is full of love and light!

On Point Birthday

I am big into house plants lately, so for Karly Starr's birthday card I drew her the prettiest cactus I ever have, and paired it with my sharpest pun: "Hope your day is on point!" I so appreciate Karly dear and hope she is having the best day ever!

Cupcake Sparkler Birthday

For Riley's birthday card, I drew a fun cupcake with the most exciting sparkler candle I've ever created! All thanks to my new metallic pens -- look at that shine! I hope Riley has an amazing birthday and is looking forward to a year of lots of wonderful things. 

Book Window Birthday

Marilynne is one of the most avid readers I know, so for her birthday card I attempted another Debbie Dots first creating folded curtains out of book pages to frame a window! The scene looks at a bunny in a field wearing a party hat. I had a lot of fun playing with this card and an even better time connecting over coffee. I hope Marilynne has an excellent year!

Wild Birthday

 For: Dustin
Occasion: his birthday

Dustin loves living in Colorado, so to help celebrate his birthday, I did an outdoorsy illustration on kraft paper that features lots of adventure-y stuff! The banner reads "Have a wild birthday" and I just love how simple yet effective this card is. I hope Dustin gets up to all kinds of fun this year!
