20,000 Film Reel Card

For: Aunt Glor

Occasion: 20,000th Day

Aunt Glor recently lived her 20,000th day, and to help mark the momentous occasion, I did a watercolor of the film reels of her life! In thinking about what it means to have so many days under one's belt, I imagined snapshots from each day, which lead me to the individual pictures that make up a film, like in a film reel! The resultant illustration features a movie called 20,000 Days of Gloria. I really love the sentiment behind this card, and I hope Aunt Glor has 20,000 wonderful sunrises and sunsets to enjoy.

Snuggly Sloth Birthday

For: The Twin
Occasion: her birthday

Twin is a new mom, so in considering what could be the happiest image for her birthday card, I knew it had to scream comfort. What's more cozy than a sloth hugging a pillow in a pillow fort? I love The Twin so much and have rather enjoyed our last decades together on this planet!

Sunflower Birthday

For: Bridget
Occasion: her birthday

For Bridget's birthday card this year, I did a watercolor of a beautiful sunflower. I love how it turned out, and I hope Bridge is having  great start to her senior year!

White Sox Birthday

For: Uncle Greg
Occasion: his birthday

To celebrate Uncle Greg's birthday this year, I did a retro design of a White Sox player in the old red white and blue! I love how playful this is--I hope Uncle Greg liked the card and had an awesome day!

Dandelion Birthday

For: Sarah Sot
Occasion: her birthday

For Sarah's birthday card this year, I created a silhouette of a dandelion losing its petal seeds to the wind in front of a multicolored sky. I was thinking about wishes, and this idea captured the mystery I and beauty that I wanted to include--I'm pretty pleased with it! I adore Sarah and hope she had a wonderful day. 

Coach McGuirk Birthday

For: Mike
Occasion: his birthday

To celebrate Mike's birthday this year, I did a watercolor drawing of his favorite Home Movies character, Coach McGuirk. It's a great show and gives us lots of laughs--I hope Mike has the best birthday and that his year is the most amazing one yet!

Frisbee Golf Birthday

For: Scott
Occasion: his birthday

Apart from being the coolest, Scott loves frisbee golf! To celebrate his birthday, I drew a goal among some rolling hills on a partly cloudy day. This was a fun design to mull over, and I really enjoyed playing with my various silver pens and pencils to get the goal all pretty. Anyway, I think Scott is just the best and hope he has an amazing year!

Elvis Birthday

For: Sandie
Occasion: her birthday

My new boss is the biggest Elvis fan I could ever have conceived of, so for her birthday card I did an illustration of The King singing and dancing with a "Happy Birthday Sandie!" message spelled out in lights. I had a lot of fun making this design and am so delighted that she liked the card. 

Yay Birthday

For: Molly
Occasion: her birthday

To celebrate Molly's birthday, I did a fun watercolor of a banner that reads "Yay for Molly!" Green and yellow are the colors of one of Molls' favorite sports teams, and with the polka dots the card has a nice playful feel. Molly is a super cool person and I hope she has an amazing birthday!

St Andrew's Golf Birthday

For: Uncle Joel
Occasion: his birthday

To celebrate Uncle Joel's big 5-0, I did a sepia watercolor of the St. Andrew's Golf symbol. He and my grandparents and my dad went on an epic trip to Ireland and wrapped up in Scotland with a visit to the renowned golf course. I am so delighted Uncle Joel loved this card and hope this year brings awesome golf adventures!

Bee Birthday

For: Jimmy
Occasion: his birthday

For Jimmy's birthday card, I featured a neat illustration of a bee and paired it with a "Happy [bee] - Day!" message. How clever! I had a great time sketching out the intricacies of this little bug, and hope Jimmy had an even better birthday.

Puppy Wedding

For: Zach and Alyssa
Occasion: their wedding

To help celebrate Zach and Alyssa's wedding, I did a watercolor of their adorable new puppy, Moose! He's got a basket with the date of their wedding on it and is holding the rings. I hope they had a magical wedding and that their marriage started surrounded with love, joy, and awesomeness.
