New Baby Nap

For: Sofi, Paul, and Jackson
Occasion: New Baby

To celebrate the birth of Baby Maxwell, I did a watercolor of the little guy asleep on a blanket that has his name on it! I love the circular cutout of the painting and think it looks very sharp placed on the green background. Sofi and Paul are the very best parents, and I'm sure Jackson will be a great big brother!

Baby Jonah Welcome

For: Alyssa and Jeff
Occasion: New Baby

Alyssa and Jeff welcomed sweet little Jonah into their family on my dad's birthday! The pictures of this little guy are so, so cute, and that hair! To celebrate their bundle, I drew a picture of the little guy with a big ol' binkie with his name in yellow and green. I am so happy for Alyssa and cannot wait to meet this little guy on a trip home!

Jogging Birthday

For: Mark
Occasion: his birthday

Mark is big into running again, so for his birthday card, I did a watercolor of him running around Bryant Park near his house! He's wearing red and black because every time I have ever seen him run, he seems to be wearing this ensemble. It was so fun seeing Mark a few weeks ago, and I hope he has a year full of great runs and lots of fun!

Santa Thank You

For: My coworker's granddaughter
Occasion: Thank You

Marilynne's granddaughter very graciously let me borrow her Santa doll when I had an oddly specific need for one and couldn't find any in the stores (because, April). To thank her for her generosity, I did a drawing of the Santa doing a cartwheel and exclaiming "Thank you!" I so appreciate that she helped me out, and am so grateful to Marilynne for connecting me!

Geometric Thank You

For: The Schoenbergs
Occasion: Thank You

To thank Alli and Mark for being incredible hosts over our New Jersey wedding weekend, I created this neat design for them! I am a big fan of how the card came out--the colors!--the shapes! We had such a wonderful time getting to hang out with the family and can't wait to see the gang again soon!

Adventure Birthday

For: Anna
Occasion: her birthday

Anna is a big adventure travel lady, so for her birthday card this year, I did a drawing of a directional sign post where the signs read "happy," "birthday," and "anna"! The base of the pole has a brief case with all kinds of travel stickers on it a map (look at those crisply drawn folds!), a coffee and a camera. I love the pink and purple tones of this design--it all looks so sharp! I hope Anna had a great birthday and that this year is full of wonderful journeys.

Third Birthday Balloon

For: Emma
Occasions: her birthday

Little Miss Emma turned three years old today, and we got to celebrate my curly-haired soon-to-be second-cousin-once-removed-in-law with a special cake and party! It's always so fun to see the Rings and it's been a real treat to see Emma grow into such a big girl!

Basketball Birthday

For: Dan
Occasion: his birthday

Mike and I love playing basketball with Dan at The River, so for big bro's birthday card this year, I did a stylized drawing of him with some really neat perspective. Look at those sick kicks! And of course Dan is wearing a Yankees shirt. It was so great seeing him and the fam last weekend--I hope we can get some hoop time in next time we see each other!

Beatnik Birthday

For: My dad
Occasion: his birthday

My dad is the coolest guy I know. For his birthday card this year, I featured a brightly colored beatnik (in part because of our self-guided Jack Kerouac walking tour of Denver several years ago now) with a message in slang for my dad: "Hey Daddio! I don't wanna be off the cobb, but you seem like you really know your groceries, man, and I dig it." This translates, roughly, to "Hey dude! I don't wanna be corny, but you seem like you really know your stuff, and that's cool." What a fun card this was to research. I love my dad so much and hope he has a great birthday!

Watercolor Wedding Couple

For: The newly-weds, Mr. and Mrs. O'Shea
Occasion: their wedding

Jess and O'Shea had a beautiful wedding out in New Jersey this weekend, and to help celebrate their nuptials, I did a watercolor of the happy couple in their wedding best. Turns out their attire for the big day was even snazzier than I had envisioned, but I got the basics right and I am giddy with how the likenesses turned out. I can't remember the last time I had as much fun at a wedding, and can't wait to hang with our favorite couple back in Colorado.

Line Birthday

For: Joel
Occasion: his birthday

For Joel's birthday card this year, I had a hankering to work with some lines! I recently got a bunch of new markers wanted to try my hand at a geometric design. I used blues and greens in my abstract, deconstructed cross-hatch. I really like the look of the card, and I hope Joel enjoys his big day!

Embroidery Birthday

For: Mom
Occasion: her birthday

My mom is waaaay into embroidering and has been stitching up a storm of shirts, hats, quilts and other projects! To celebrate her birthday this year, I did a drawing of an embroidered cupcake paired with "happy birthday!" lettering. To make it look stitched I used lots of little lines and some pencil outlining--mom's creations look much smoother than this, but I had to show that it was embroidery somehow! It was so great to see Mom on her birthday weekend and I hope she enjoyed her day!

Button Shower

For: The Twin
Occasion: Baby Shower

My card for Twin's Baby Shower features a literal Button Shower! The theme was "Cute as a Button" and so to borrow from my other favorite shower card, I drew lots of bright buttons falling from the sky. I love my Twin so much and had such a great time throwing her and Nugget (my name for Baby Curry) a party. I can't wait to meet this little guy soon!

Cute as a Button Baby Shower

For: The Twin
Occasion: Baby Shower

Twin's baby shower was this weekend! Here is the watercolor that I uploaded to Paperless Post so I could give the email invitations some homemade flair! Twin love, love, loves buttons, so we decided that "Cute as a Button" would be an adorable theme for Baby Curry's shower. I made all kinds of button decorations, and, my shining achievement of the shower was the very fun "Christy's Cravings" snack table pictured below:

It's got a picture of Twin holding a plate of carrots on her baby bump and breaks down her various cravings by trimester: 1st is Ruffles and ginger ale, 2nd is Honeycomb cereal, 3rd is BBQ chips, Rice Krispie Treats, and dark chocolate chips. I'm so pumped at how this gimmick turned out, and am so glad the shower went so well!

Doggy Bike Birthday

For: Shia
Occasion: his birthday

Shia is a great little bike rider, so for his 4th birthday (!!!) card, I created a watercolor dog in clothes (because there's nothing more fun!) riding a (marker) bike with (papercut) presents in his basket! (That's what they call mixed media, my friends.) I love how this card turned out and I hope Shia got to ride his bike all around the neighborhood!

Sunglasses Birthday

For: JP
Occasion: his birthday

JP is a really cool human being, so for his birthday card this year, I did a papercut of the emblem of coolness: sunglasses! I modeled them after the classic Ray Ban shape and then used a magazine painting of some clouds for the lenses. HOW COOL IS THIS CARD? I hope JP has a great day and is ready for another awesome year.
