Popcorn Birthday

Mark loves popcorn! To celebrate his birthday this year, I made a vintage style card with a goofy popcorn kernel "Poppin' by to say Happy Birthday!" I love how silly and delightful this card is, along with the shaking energy lines that show this guy just popped! Here's hoping Mark gets all the tasty snacks he could hope for this year.

Earth Day Birthday

 For: Anna
Occasion: her birthday

Every year for forever, I have made the Happy "B-Earth Day" joke in Anna's card, so this year I leaned in hard and featured the gag as the theme! I love a yellow sky for one, and had lots of fun drawing all the planets in the solar system wishing the Earth a "Happy B-Earthday!" I hope Anna hasn't minded the pun and enjoys her next trip around the sun!

Born to Shine Birthday

 For: Emma
Occasion: her birthday

For Emma's birthday card, I made the happiest watercolor sun I could, and put it on a little paper fold for a 3D effect! "You were born to shine" could not be truer with this card. 

Emma is so much fun--I hope she enjoyed this card and her special day!

Cake on Fire Birthday

 For: Dan
Occasion: his birthday

Dan's getting up there in age, so for his birthday card I playfully drew a cake engulfed in flames! I hope he doesn't take offense and has a big breath ready for an epic wish. Here's hoping Dan has an amazing year and lots of cake to boot!

Monster Birthday

Occasion: his birthday

Max is such a fun and goofy kid! For his birthday card this year, I created a goofy little watercolor monster holding a cake and wearing a party hat. I really love how this card turned out and hope Max is excited for whatever comes his way this year!

Bubbly Birthday

 For: Aunt Helena
Occasion: her birthday

For Aunt Helena's birthday card this year, I used some washi tape to help create the crisp lines of a glass with a colorful bubbly beverage inside! I love the color-pairing with this card and hope Helena had lots of tasty sips to help celebrate the big day!

Beatles Birthday

 For: Dad
Occasion: his birthday

For Dad's birthday card this year, I did a delightful illustration of The Fab Four all wearing party hats with the tune "They say it's your birthday" floating around their heads! I had so much fun designing and illustrating this card and even have a lovely voicemail of my dad's reaction to opening it (aww, dad!). I hope he has the best year anyone could ever have!

Cake Day Birthday

Occasion: his birthday

The best part about getting older is the cake! To help Joel celebrate his big day, I cut to the chase and drew a cake for what it's really all about: "Cake day!" I hope his day was awesome and this next year has lots of reasons to celebrate!

Eclipse Birthday

Occasion: her birthday

The eclipse happens today on my mom's birthday! She is making a special trip to see it in all its glory, and I had to feature the astronomical phenomenon in her birthday card this year. The flame of the candle is the total eclipse, and the cupcake shadow features all those fun little lines that boggle the mind when the sun disappears. I hope she had the best time with her total eclipse birthday!

Mountain Birthday

Because Kasicki may come out to Colorado this summer to hang for a bit, I wanted to feature our lovely mountains (majesty) in his birthday card! I really like the simplicity of the blues and white detailing, and can't wait to go on a hike come July!

Goal Birthday

Shia's birthday card this year features a cupcake having been kicked into the net for a birthday "Gooooo-ooooo-ooal!" This card was so fun to create and I hope it hit the spot for Shi-Shi's birthday celebrations!

Jaguar Birthday

To help JP celebrate the big day, I did an illustration of a jaguar cheetah-type with an entire birthday cake in its mouth! There's a playfulness to this card that pair with the ferocity quite well I think -- here's hoping JP has a most excellent year!

Ducky Birthday

Gio turned two and to celebrate this awesome achievement, I did an illustration of two rubber duckies in party hats with a GIO banner between their beaks! It was so fun to see the little guy over the winter, and I can't wait until we can play again soon!
